Castrol-HAUGG-Cup
Sunshine followed the fog
Thursday morning: The participants of the Castrol-HAUGG-Cup looked concerned to the sky. The Eifel was totally foggy; the visibility was under 20 metres at some sectors. Of course the race could not get started under these conditions. Fortunately 90 minutes later the Eifel showed its nicer side: bride sunshine all over. 134 cars went out on the track and the race ended with a big surprise: Honda-Civic-pilot André Krumbach celebrated his first victory in the CHC. Second became Hans-Rolf and Sascha Selzer on their BMW M3.
It was not really a pleasure for the drivers that the sun was shining and the track was drying because most of them had decided against the slicks. "Even in lap two the track became greasy and the tyres got hot", Gerrit Gaastra said after the race. The Mitsubishi-pilot was one the fastest in the field but with 310 points he got too many penalty points and finished 10th.
