Castrol-HAUGG-Cup

Willi Hieke Cups

The Castrol Haugg Cup is the eldest Touring Car Championship and occurs since 1960s primarily on the Nordschleife. The race within the scope of the ADAC Zurich 24h-race is called "Feste Nurburg" and is definitely the climax of every Castrol Haugg Cup season. The series includes a lot of different cars: From a Fiesta with 60 hp pu to a Porsche with 400 hp.

Rallye on the Nordschleife
CHC is like a rallye on the circuit. The pilots have to attend several trials. So they do not fight against each other, but against the time. One test is to drive sprint laps: That means driving through the Green Hell as fast as you can. If the pilots are too slow, they get penalty points. The second part consist a various number of laps, where you should concentrate on driving consistent lap times. The more you miss the prescribed lap time, the more you get penalty points. So the winning team is not the fastest on the track, it is the one, which has earned less penalty points.
At an average of 70 cars take part in this series. Even last year there were above 100 teams starting in the support race of the 33. ADAC Zurich 24h-Race. That means a lot of variety and tension for the spectators.

Amateurs and professionals
The trials are in that manner, that the drivers have to demonstrate all-round abilities. The CHC combines amateurs and professionals just like beginners and old stagers. To that effect the Castrol Haugg Cup is obtained for rookies as a door to the German race circus.

In addition to the race on Thursday, 15th of June, the traditional CHC Corso will occur on Wednesday evening.
